As a member of First Baptist, you’ll want to be ministered to. We hope you’ll also want to find a way to use the gifts, talents and abilities God has blessed you with to minister to others. As you seek your place of ministry here, please accept our invitation to consider becoming involved in ministry through music.
Our desire is to use music as a tool to exalt our Lord, to encourage our church family, and to evangelize those who have not experienced a relationship with Jesus Christ. The idea that is central in each of those purposes is that we help the church experience the presence and power of God every time we meet for corporate worship.
It is our belief that music ministry offers one of the most exciting places of all to get involved in the life of First Baptist. When asked which of the commands was the greatest, Jesus replied, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”(Matt. 23:37 NIV) Music provides an avenue for each of us to worship – and to lead others to experience the true joy of meaningful worship.
The Celebration Choir is the point of entry for those 18 years of age and older who wish to be involved in vocal music ministry at First Baptist Church. This choir leads the church in worship weekly and presents numerous special musical events throughout the year. Auditions are not required for participation in this choir but are required for those who wish to be involved in solo and ensemble ministries.

Along with leading in worship each week, they often accompany our Celebration Choir in presenting special musical events such as our annual Living Christmas Tree and our Resurrection Celebration.

If you enjoy playing and haven’t in a while, we encourage you to “dust off” that instrument and join us as we praise the Lord!
“Praise Him with trumpet sound; Praise Him with harp and lyre; Praise Him with timbrel and dancing; Praise Him with stringed instruments and pipe; Praise Him with loud, resounding cymbals. Let EVERYTHING that has breath praise the Lord!” Psalm 150:3-6
Handbells add both visual and aural beauty to our worship services. Our Praise Ringers are a dedicated group of 12 to 15 musicians who enjoy a unified effort of praise through handbell ringing. They ring 5 octaves of Malmark Handbells, often adding handchimes to give texture and variety to their ringing. This group meets from September to May. Besides ringing in church, they are often a part of our Living Christmas Tree, community events and participate in the Annual TN Baptist Handbell Festival.

EXALT is open to students in grades seven through college. This group incorporates different areas of fine arts in worship and ministry. Praise teams, praise bands, black light drama and drama/skits are used. Members of EXALT participate in student ministry mission projects throughout the year as well as in our morning and evening services. We encourage our students to also live out a life of worship. So if you have a song for Christ, we encourage you to be a part of EXALT!

purity, show yourself an example of those who believe!” I Timothy 4:12
Our Graded Children’s Choirs offer age-appropriate musical experiences for children in grades One through Six. We incorporate singing, scripture memory, musical notation, rhythm instruments and handchimes into their learning experience so that they might become well trained young musicians.
PRAISE! Musicians is for children in 4th thru 6th grades; and Music Makers is for Children 1st thru 3rd grade. They meet from 5:00pm-5:50 p.m. each Sunday afternoon from September through May. This choir participates in special musical programs at Christmas and also presents a children’s musical at the end of the school year and occasionally participates in regular worship services. We pray that you as a parent will allow your child the privilege of combining their songs of praise with musical training so that they might grow to be skilled worshipers.
“Train up a child in the way he should go. Even when he is old will not depart from it” Proverbs 22:6
Preschoolers are so precious and are at such a tender age! The goal of our Pre-school choir ministry is to teach these children developmentally appropriate musical skills and to help mold their young hearts to love and worship God. We incorporate movement, rhythm instruments, scripture memory and song in their curriculum.
WEE Choir is designed especially for three year olds.
Melody Makers is for 4 and 5 year olds and each of these choirs meet on Sunday afternoon from 5:00pm-5:50pm. Their choir year runs from September through May.
“Permit the little children to come to Me; do not hinder them; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Mark 10:13
